The
crack NOBC team sprang into action first thing this morning and set a date for the re-scheduled
Rocktoberfest (Oct. 24). We have already gotten the OK from the Levee Board for the road use and I've revised the website, created a new Active.com online registration site, e-mailed the new date to the
LAMBRA list and the NOBC list, etc. We still need to work out the event permit details with the USAC where most of the staff is apparently on vacation because of Columbus day today. [Hold the presses! Just got an e-mail from Tinker at
USAC saying that they changed our date in the database and the person handling it will be back in the office tomorrow. Excellent!] We had to pay the police and some other costs for the cancelled race, of course (around $350), so that's going to sting a bit, but I'd hate to see us not have Rocktoberfest. Everyone who pre-registered will get to race the Oct. 24 event without re-registering and we have added a drawing for a free bicycle paint job by the local
Creative Cycle Works guys. Robin said he is going to try and hunt up some additional sponsorship too.
So, after three whole days off the bike, I finally got out for a ride this morning, although I overslept and missed the group and had to chase almost all the way out until I met them on their way back. I feel kind of sluggish after three days of eating chips and watching the rain fall. On the plus side, the ride in to work this morning felt great. I guess I had a little tailwind, and the temperature a little lower than usual. If I hadn't had to resort to the sidewalk to go around a couple of school busses that decided to completely block the road, it would have been perfect.
I'm looking out my window right now and can see the big U.S. flag atop one of the tall downtown buildings and it's showing me a North wind! We're expecting a bit of cooler weather around here this week.
Now what did I do with those arm-warmers last Spring??

How 'bout that USAC? I just got the revised insurance certificates for the rescheduled race! That's a pretty fast turnaround!
